Supplier asks charity for fuel poverty help

One of the UK's leading energy suppliers has asked a charity for its views on how it can help vulnerable customers.

Nick Horler, the chief executive of ScottishPower, has invited Energy Action Scotland to take part in a seminar about how new extra funding to tackle fuel poverty should be spent.

The government announced plans to triple the amount it sets aside to help vulnerable energy customers earlier this year.

Mr Horler said: "Although Ofgem has agreed to lead a process to set the parameters for what can be included under this spend, we would like to hear directly from Energy Action Scotland and their members.

"I am determined that this additional money is effectively targeted and we would very much value the expert opinion of everyone in the room."

ScottishPower was recently given the green light to begin construction of a new £200 million windfarm development.

The 60-turbine site will be buit in south Ayrshire and is expected to produce clean energy for around 85,000 homes.ADNFCR-1054-ID-18663482-ADNFCR
